Concord Grapes
![]()
We usually use no sprays on our Concord grapes. Grapes are sold by the pound, both pre-picked and PYO (although for convenience we also sell them by the quart.)
You can usually PYO grapes until mid-October, or until a hard frost occurs. Concord grapes are totally different from the California table grapes which are basically only good for fresh eating. Concord grapes can be used in many ways, have high nutritional and anti-oxidant value, and are very high in flavanoid content (in other words, they are good for you and have anti-cancer properties.)
They have a delightful tangy flavor when eaten fresh (you do have to contend with seeds.) They make a wonderful pie, great tasting juice, and the best home made jam as well as a full-bodied wine (if you wish to add a little spirit.)
Concord grapes have a long shelf life of several weeks if left on the cluster and refrigerated. Like any other fruit or vegetable, we recommend that you wash or rinse them before use, even though they should have no pesticide residue.
TRIVIA: Did you know that grapes meet the botanical definition of a berry, whereas strawberries do not?
