Fall Raspberries
![]()
We usually use no sprays on our fall raspberries. Pre-picked berries are sold by the pint for convenience and easier handling (less bruising and crushing than in larger containers). At Carandale, you pick-your-own by the pound (we feel this is the most fair, since you only pay for what you pick.) One pint weighs about 3/4 lb. For comparison prices, multiply the pound price by 0.75 to get the comparable pint price.

Fall bearing raspberries are usually available until early or mid October. If early freezing occurs, we can protect them with our sprinkler irrigation system. Raspberries are extremely fragile and have a short shelf life after harvest. They should be refrigerated as soon as possible and used within a couple of days (eaten fresh, frozen, or processed.) Adding sugar to fresh raspberries will extend their shelf life in the refrigerator by several days.
We suggest that you rinse them gently to remove dust particles, and other natural contaminants (this is advisable for all produce no matter how it is grown or handled.) Raspberries are very fragile and are easily bruised. One good way to rinse them is to place them in a colander and immerse them in a pan of water briefly, let them drain thoroughly before processing.
